Pakistanis seem to ardently believe in the famous quote that “There is no trouble so great or grave that cannot be much diminished by a nice cup of tea.”

As a tea-loving nation, we are always looking for better and better varieties of tea to satiate our chai cravings.

chai chikachinoA new café Chikachino, just launched in Islamabad, proclaims to bring the ultimate tea experience ever!

To check out this new hyped tea, I attended the launch event at café which is located in Jinnah Super Market (F-7 Markaz).

The tea unexpectedly arrived in a brown clay cup, keeping in view numerous health benefits. The aroma of the special Chikachino tea was stimulating enough. Excitedly, I took the first sip of tea and it was marvellous! I never experienced so many different flavours in a single cup of tea. The fragrance, the strong and the distinct taste is bound to mesmerize you.

Whether you are a chai lover or not, you must try the Chikachino tea once and who knows you might get hooked to it. And if you do, the good news for you is that the café is open 24 hours a day.

The restaurant offers 12 varieties of tea as well as delicious desi snacks. It is basically a take-away place but there is little outside seating area as well.

Chitchat with Chikachino owner

The person behind Chikachino is Dr. Aamir Rashid who is Islamabad’s known restaurateur famous for his landmark restaurant ‘Tuscany Courtyard’.

Sharing the story behind the tea café, Aamir said: “It was a crisp Sunday evening and I was at Tuscany Courtyard, reminiscing about how I had started Tuscany and how it had now become synonymous with quality food and service. During this time, I found myself craving for a delicious cup of tea.

He thought of all the tea places in Islamabad that could revitalize and refresh him. “It occurred to me that even after all these years, I have not once come across a top tier tea outlet in Islamabad. So I went to Tuscany’s Kitchen and told chef to make him tea and instructed the chef “chik ke rakhna”. Once the tea came, it looked a beautiful khaki color which is where the word “chino” was derived from. The result was a marvel and a tea drinkers’ delight.”

This was the eureka moment when Dr Aamir realized he had developed the tea of teas and based on his instructions of “chik” combined with the type of tea “chino”, came the name CHIKACHINO.

Soon, he made it part of the menu at Tuscany. “The tea was an instant success, with raving reviews. They called it Chikachino or Dr. Aamir wali chai” This tremendous response finally led to the launch of Chikachino café.

What makes the Chikachino tea remarkable is the secret ingrediant that remains alone with Dr. Aamir.

“The slogan of Chikachino is ‘Pure as Pakistan’ because everything from ingredients to teacups is made in Pakistan” Dr. Aamir told Islamabad Scene.

The café’s ambiance, staff and ingredients represent all regions of Pakistan including Sindh, Punjab, Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit Baltistan and Kashmir, the owner proudly shared.
