CDA retrieves state land worth Rs 20 billion from Centaurus Mall

CDA vacated 15 acres of government land from the management of Centaurus which was illegally occupied for 10 years.

After bulldozing illegal encroachments around Centaurus Shopping Mall Islamabad, Capital Development Authority (CDA) has regained 15 acres of state land from the Mall management which was illegally occupied for 10 years.

According to media reports, Enforcement and Building Control Section of CDA launched combined operation against encroachments and illegally established rooms to recover the occupied land.

The worth of this land is around Rs20 billion and Civic body will soon auction the plot, according to Member Estate CDA Khushal Khan.

 

The renowned Centaurus Mall administration had occupied the estate land for 10 years and was served several notices by the CDA during the period.

The operation under the supervision of Member Estate Khushhal Khan started on Wednesday morning and continued until the next day.

The area adjacent to Centaurus mall turned to the wreckage as heavy machinery demolished hundreds of residences of security guards, employees, offices and other installations in the illegally-occupied land amidst resistance causing injuries to six people including to the director Enforcement.

During the operation, the workers of the mall who pelted stones on the enforcement team, and damaged their vehicles due to which one CDA employee and two police officials got injured in the attack.

Member Estate then called the extra police force and launched operation after an hour with new zeal, razing all encroachments.

Other on the other hand residences of employees of Centaurus Mall comprising 400 rooms was also demolished.

These rooms were changed to small residential colonies which were demolished completely. Furthermore, containers, barriers and fences installed in the name of security were also razed.

The operation was supervised by Director Enforcement while Director Roads, senior special magistrate, officers of concerned formations and heavy contingent of Islamabad police also participated in the operation.

Sardar Yasir, Senior Vice President of Centaurus Mall termed the CDA’s operation illegal and claimed CDA had itself allowed to construct site offices for residential purposes until completion of a project.

He denied any illegal involvement to occupy Govt and said CDA had been trying to blackmail Centaurus management through such operation.
