The administration of Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) has banned the cutting of trees for two months by imposing section 144 across the capital.
In a notification issued by ICT, District Magistrate Captain (r) Mushtaq Ahmed has banned any type of illegal construction, sales purchase, cutting of trees and destruction of natural beauty across federal capital.
“It has come to my knowledge through Ministry of Climate Change Islamabad that government property is being used for illegal construction, sale and purchase, cutting of trees and destruction of natural beauty,” the order by District Magistrate reads.
The order stipulates that all kinds of illegal construction, sale and purchase, cutting of trees, destruction of natural beauty, encroachment including removal and disturbance of earth and natural vegetation, and shifting existing government boundary markers are prohibited in the capital territory.
The forest cover in Margalla Hills is 17,111 acres and is surrounded by Haripur, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Taxila and Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT).
Mushtaq had directed the administration to take serious actions including heavy penalties for the violators. The order will be effective for two months for now.
