Main function of Defence Day to be held at GHQ in Rawalpindi to pay tributes to martyrs

Pakistan is celebrating its 52nd Defence Day today to honour the sacrifices of fallen heroes who lost their lives in the 1965 and 1971 wars, the Kargil conflict and the ongoing war on terror.

Defence Day celebrations began on 6th September and will continue till 8th September.

Special prayers were offered in mosques for the prosperity of the country. Fateha and Quran Khawani was also held for the martyrs.

A number of events are being held in connection with Defence Day across the country. The main event will be held tonight at General Headquarters in Rawalpindi to pay tribute to the martyrs.

Pakistan to combat challenges with determination, unity

Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa, in his special message on Defence Day, vowed that enemies of the country “shall fall short of their bullets, but our resolve shall not.”

In his message on the occasion, Air Chief Marshal Sohail Aman vowed that the nation would combat any challenges facing it with fierce determination and unity.

Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Muhammad Zakaullah said Pakistan is now making progress on every front with sure-footed determination and resolve. He added that there is a need to stay vigilant regarding the challenges confronting the region.

Islamabad

An inspiring ceremony was held at Naval Headquarters in Islamabad on Wednesday morning in connection with Defence of Pakistan Day.

Deputy Chief of Naval Staff Farrukh Ahmad was the chief guest on the occasion. Floral wreath was laid at the memorial of martyrs and prayers offered for defence and security of Pakistan.

Karachi

The main ceremony of change of guard was held at Mazar-e-Quaid in Karachi this morning. A spirited and young contingent of Pakistan Air Force took the charge of the guard duties.

Air Vice Marshal Imran Khalid was chief guest the of the ceremony who laid floral wreath and offered fateha at the tomb of the father of the nation Quaid Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah. Traditional national salute was also presented to the father of the nation by the cadets of the Pakistan Air Force.

Addressing a ceremony arranged by Pakistan Air Force at Masroor base in Karachi, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah said Pakistan Air Force has always played an important role in all the operations. He said current wave of the terrorism is challenge for us which will be dealt with iron hands.

Lahore

In Lahore, a simple but elegant ceremony was held at Mazar-e-Iqbal, in which Punjab Rangers assumed the charge of Mazar’s security.

Garrison Commander Lahore, Maj. Gen. Muhammad Aamir was the Chief Guest on the occasion, who laid a floral wreath and offered fateha at the national poet’s grave.

Gilgit-Baltistan

In Gilgit-Baltistan, a function was held at the tomb of Havaldar Lalak Jan shaheed, Nishan-e-Haider at Hundur in Ghizer. Commander, Force Command Northern Area Major General Saqib Mehmood Malik laid floral wreath at the Mazar and offered Fateha. A contingent of Northern Light Infantry Regiment presented guard of honour at the Mazar.

Azad Kashmir

Functions, seminars and rallies are also being organized in Azad Kashmir to celebrate Pakistan’s Defence Day.
