The recent session of ‘Meet the Writer over a cup of tea’ hosted Pakistan’s renowned poet and columnist, Muhammad Izhar ul Haq.
“Poetry has always remained my foremost priority, but I believe that the contemporary Pakistani society can’t be changed merely through poetry. This is why, I focus on writing articles along with poetry” said Muhammad Izhar ul Haq while conversing with the poets and poetry-lovers at the session “Meet the Writer over a cup of tea” organized by Writers Café, Pakistan Academy of Letters.
Muhammad Izhar ul Haq said that he considered himself the most fortunate person to be born in a family who is considered custodian of traditional literary heritage. He said that he learned Persian language from his grandfather which played a crucial role in polishing his creative abilities afterward.
Muhammad Izhar ul Haq has received international recognition for his contribution to Urdu literature, and has been awarded Pakistan’s highest civil award Pride of performance in 2008. He has published four books of Urdu poetry and writes weekly column in Daily Dunya.
Dr. Muhammad Qasim Bughio, Chairman Pakistan Academy of Letters, Haleem Qureshi, Hassan Abbas Raza, Qayyum Tahir, Muhammad Hameed Shahid, Shaida Chishti, Maj.Aman Ullah, Anjum Khaleeq, Saud Usmani, Wafa Chishti, Ayesha Masood Malik, Shahab Alam Qureshi, Dr. Waheed Ahmed, Ali Akbar Natiq and other writers shed light on the contribution, work and personality of well-known writer, Muhammad Izhar ul Haq as well as put forward few questions.
“Muhammad Izhar Ul Haq is one the most prominent and illuminative poets of 1970s” remarked Muhammad Hameed Shahid.
Dr. Muhammad Qasim Bughio gave a brief introduction of Muhammad Izhar Ul Haq to the audience. Haleem Qureshi said that Izhar ul Haq’s poetry is of dignified, broadminded and elevated values. Hassan Raza Abbas while expressing his views said that Muhammad Izhar ul Haq highlighted and enlightened the constructive characteristics of the bright past. Anjam Khaleeq also talked about Muhammad Izhar ul Haq while complimenting his works.7
Apart from the twin cities, some writers and intellectuals also came from Taxila, Abbottabad, Lahore and Peshawar to attend with the poet.Maj. Aman Ullah from Abbottabad, Nasir Ali Syed and Aziz Ejaz from Peshawar, Rakib Raja from Taxila, Hafeez ullah Badal from Wah and Saud Usmani from Lahore also spoke bout the poetry, personality and other works of the honorable guest of the evening.
Muhammad Izhar Ul Haq expressed his feelings of gratitude to Dr. Muhammad Qasim Bughio, Chairman Pakistan Academy of Letters for conducting the ceremony.
