University of Central Asia and Pakistan to be established in Islamabad

HEC all set to establish the University of Central Asia and Pakistan for Central Asian students

Higher Education Commission Pakistan is all set to establish a world class comprehensive research intensive University of Central Asia and Pakistan (UCAP) in Islamabad.

The institute is aimed to focus on creation and dissemination of knowledge while promoting regional connectivity initiatives of the Central Asia Regional countries.

The government of Pakistan has allocated the initial funding about Rs. 600 million that already been allocated in the 2016-17 budget along with additional Rs 500 million for the same will be allocated in the upcoming fiscal year for the establishing state of the art university.

With the initial funding of Rs. 600 million, the construction of the basic structure of the UCAP is set to commence in the coming days, once some lingering procedural issues have been taken care of.

The government aims to promote cultural exchange, economic and social development and international peace and stability by offering top quality education for Central Asian students and making Pakistan a hub for education.

UCAP will also facilitate increased cooperation between the Central Asian States and Pakistan, which would have a great impact on regional understanding.

Ahsan Iqbal, who served as the Minister of Planning and Development of Pakistan, met with Acting President of Peking University, China’s top university, to discuss collaboration for new University of Central Asia and Pakistan (UCAP) which is going to start from September 2017.

The university is being established in Pakistani capital, which shall operate independently under a Foundation and plans to start operation initially with the School of Business and Leadership.

The Higher Education Commission, Pakistan is dedicated to provide high-quality programs for human resource development and advance discovery of innovative knowledge of public value to the regional countries. Also, the university plans to launch programs in Social Sciences, Humanities, Liberal Arts, Law, Sciences and Engineering in phases.

The process of induction of staff, faculty, and head of departments is under way. The finalization of admissions and courses on offer will be completed after the induction of staff and faculty.

The head of the university and faculty members has been opened for all countries and those fulfilling criteria would be eligible to apply.

The final location for the university hasn’t been decided. However, the allocation of land for UCAP will be finalized in August this year. The classes for UCAP are set to begin in September 2018 temporarily at COMSATS University, Islamabad.

The provision of land and basic structure for the university will be taken care of by the government of Pakistan, while Central Asian countries can also participate in the operational costs by offering scholarships and other monetary support.
