The federal government of Pakistan has officially unveiled the public and optional holiday schedule for 2025, outlining key dates for national events and religious festivals.
Issued by the Cabinet Division on Monday, the notification highlights holidays for both Muslims and minorities, with particular emphasis on the dates of Muslim festivals, which are subject to moon sightings.
The Cabinet Division confirmed that the dates for Muslim holidays will be based on anticipated moon sightings, and official announcements will be made accordingly.
To ensure smooth operations, the notification stresses that the number of optional holidays granted must not disrupt government functions, and employees’ absences will be carefully regulated. The new guidelines underscore the importance of balancing religious observance with operational efficiency in government offices.
The notification also clarified the rules for optional holidays granted to government employees. No government servant will be allowed to avail of an optional holiday without prior permission from the head of their respective organization. Furthermore, employees are restricted to a maximum of one optional holiday for Muslims and up to three for non-Muslims throughout the year.
