Pakistan China study centre would strengthen cultural ties and promote youth interaction

Pakistan’s Adviser on Foreign Affairs to PM Sartaj Aziz and Chinese Ambassador Sun Weidong have inaugurated Pakistan China study centre in Islamabad.
Pakistan and China share long cultural, diplomatic and strategic cherished by both the people and governments of the two states. Cultural and study exchange programs have been the essence of the relation from the very beginning.
The objectives of establishing this Pak-China study centre is to promote mutual cultural and in-depth study of both states. These cultural exchanges and study centres are very useful in the field of art, education, health, sports, literature, infrastructure, information and Technology.
Addressing the ceremony, Sartaj Aziz said think tanks in Pakistan must be linked with their counterparts in China to enhance people-to-people cooperation and exchange of knowledge.
“Pakistan and China enjoy brotherly ties, and history bears testimony to their valued friendship that has been supported by successive governments in both China and Pakistan.”
He further said China is Pakistan’s close and iron friend and the multi-billion dollars China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) has further strengthened relations between the two countries over the last four years.
Sartaj Aziz said that these study centres for projects research and scholarly exchange, have highlighted the role of think tanks and research institutes in providing vision, guidelines and knowledge creation on bilateral ties.
Chinese Ambassador Sun Weidong remarked that with this initiative, the level of interest in China studies in Pakistan would reach a new level.
Sun Weidong pledged that the Chinese Embassy will continue to extend its support for the study centre for furthering China-Pakistan friendship.
Khalid Mahmood, chairman of Institute of Strategic Studies Islamabad (ISSI), said in his address that the inauguration of CPSC at the institute symbolizes the evergreen friendship between the two countries.
He said CPSC, as an integral part of the Institute, will also conduct efforts in this background. The centre will endeavor to provide research-based inputs on various facets of Pakistan-China friendship which has consistently contributed to the peace and stability in South Asia, said the chairman.
In 2005, first Confucius Institute was established in National University of Modern Languages Islamabad.
In 2007, Pakistan Study Centres was established in Peking and Sichuan Universities. In 2008, Pakistan Culture and Communication Centres were established in Tsinghua University.
In 2009, Pakistan Study Centre was established at Fudan University. Pak-China signed MOU to establish a permanent campus of Pak- China University in both states. In 2009, Pak-China institute for socio-cultural cooperation was established.
