Shopping hours reduced in Islamabad to save energy amid electricity crisis

Markets and shopping malls in Islamabad will reduce hours for two months as the country implements measures to conserve energy amid electricity shortfall. The shopping hours were first restricted in Sindh and Punjab provinces.

The federal capital city has also decided to limit the operational hours of wedding halls and restaurants besides markets in an effort to tackle the current energy crisis.

9pm – All shops, shopping malls, bakeries, offices, storerooms, godowns, warehouses and cattle markets would close at 9pm.

10pm – The timings of marriage halls and exhibition halls would be limited to 10:00pm.

11:30pm – All commercial or industrial, restaurants, clubs, tandoors, eateries, cafes, cinemas, theatres and other places of public amusement and public parks would close at 11:30pm.

Exempted – However, hospitals and laboratories, clinics, pharmacies and medical stores, petrol pumps, milk shops and other essential businesses would remain exempted from following the closure.

Islamabad Deputy Commissioner Irfan Nawaz Memon shared the notification on Twitter.
