The Pakistan Air Force (PAF) has achieved a remarkable milestone on the global aviation stage, winning two top honors at the Royal International Air Tattoo (RIAT) 2025, the world’s largest military airshow, held at RAF Fairford in the United Kingdom.
The prestigious recognition, awarded by panels of international aviators and industry experts, underscores the PAF’s growing technological capabilities, operational readiness, and commitment to aviation excellence.
Competing among leading air forces from around the globe, Pakistan’s contingent secured both the ‘Spirit of the Meet Trophy’ and the ‘Concours d’Elegance Trophy’, marking a standout moment at this year’s airshow.
Pakistan’s C-130 wins ‘Concours d’Elegance’ Trophy
In addition to the JF-17’s recognition, Pakistan’s C-130H Hercules aircraft won the ‘Concours d’Elegance Trophy’, awarded to the best-prepared and presented aircraft on static display.
The aircraft featured a striking livery titled “Eyes in the Skies”, thematically aligning with this year’s airshow visuals and drawing widespread acclaim for both its artistic detail and technical maintenance.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), “The meticulous craftsmanship and impeccable presentation of the iconic aircraft reflected the outstanding proficiency and unwavering commitment of PAF’s personnel.”
JF-17 Thunder Block III debut captivates global audience
Leading the Pakistani display was the JF-17 Thunder Block III, making its maiden appearance at RIAT. The 4.5-generation, multi-role fighter jet was awarded the coveted ‘Spirit of the Meet Trophy’, an honor reserved for the aircraft that best embodies the ethos, energy, and excitement of RIAT.
The award comes amid heightened global interest following a recent aerial clash between Pakistan and India. According to military officials, the JF-17 Block III (co-developed by Pakistan and China) played a critical role in that four-day confrontation, including the downing of Indian aircraft.
Its presence at RIAT was further amplified by its successful non-stop journey from Pakistan to the UK, enabled by multiple in-flight Air-to-Air Refueling (AAR) operations — a feat highlighting PAF’s evolving long-range strike capability.
Global Praise for PAF
The PAF delegation also received high praise at the Air Chiefs’ Conference held alongside RIAT-2025. International air force leaders acknowledged Pakistan’s professionalism, discipline, and technical presentation standards.
Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu, Chief of the Air Staff, Pakistan Air Force, congratulated the contingent, stating: “Keeping the nation’s flag high has always been the hallmark of Pakistan Air Force. Winning these prestigious awards is a testament to our professionalism, technical expertise and relentless pursuit of excellence.”
He further commended the entire team for showcasing “Pakistan’s true potential with pride and dignity.”
Pakistan’s President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif also issued official statements congratulating the PAF on its performance. President Zardari remarked, “Pakistan Air Force enlightened the country’s name at world level,” while Prime Minister Sharif praised the leadership, pilots, and technicians for their “professional excellence.”
This year’s success adds to a growing list of RIAT accolades for Pakistan, with past honors in 2006, 2016, and 2018. The 2025 showing not only cements the Pakistan Air Force’s status among the world’s premier air forces, but also highlights its ongoing modernization efforts and increasing role in regional and international defense arenas.
Held annually in the United Kingdom, RIAT attracts hundreds of aircraft and participants from across continents, making it the most prestigious and competitive military aviation event globally. For Pakistan, the dual recognition at RIAT-2025 reflects more than aesthetic appeal, it signals strategic capability, global engagement, and technological ambition.
