Pakistan and US national security advisors meet in Geneva

COAS also held a telephonic conversation with U.S. Secretary of Defense Austin

Pakistan’s National Security Advisor Moeed Yousaf met with Jake Sullivan, the U.S. advisor for national security in Geneva. The two discussed several matters of mutual interest as well as regional and global issues. The two sides agreed on the importance of further discussions.  

Phone call between U.S. Secretary of Defense, Gen. Bajwa

U.S. Secretary of Defense Lloyd J. Austin III called Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Gen. Qamar Javed Bajwa and talked about bilateral issues as well as regional issues, according to a release from the White House.

Austin applauded Pakistan’s role in the Afghan peace process and the overall role of maintaining peace in the region. Both sides expressed a desire to build stronger ties.

US Military aid suspension to continue

Pentagon Press Secretary John Kirby confirmed during a news conference said that the suspension of military aid to Pakistan by the Trump Administration will remain in place for the immediate future. He, however, did not rule out that the decision may be reversed in the future.

“At this time, the US security assistance to Pakistan is still suspended. I will not get into speculating one way or another about if or whether that will change going forward,” Kirby said.
