The high commissioner posted a picture of himself after collecting garbage in two large trash bags from Margalla Hills
British High Commissioner to Pakistan Dr. Christian Turner cleaned up trash from one of the hiking trails in the Margalla National Park, the crown jewel of Capital’s beauty.
“Another Friday morning walk another two bags of litter. Safaai nisf imaan hai,” Dr. Turner tweeted, leading the social media platform into a frenzy. While the Twitterati appreciated Turner, the local administration and the park goers were criticized for their careless attitude.
In April, the high commissioner posted a similar message that said: “Meals are for sharing not littering. Two bags of rubbish collected on Margalla’s Friday morning walk – please help keep beautiful Islamabad clean.”
Legendary fast bowler Wasim Akram called the situation an embarrassment and thanked Tuner for his part in cleaning up the city. “Now this is really embarrassing. Where are we heading? And thanks Mr Turner for doing this almost every week,” Akram Tweeted.
DC Islamabad spring into action
DC Islamabad Hamza Shafqaat went on a trash collection drive with his team at Margalla Hill as he initiated a cleanliness campaign. The city administration has taken the matter seriously after images of British Commissioner Christian Turner collecting garbage in the Magalla National Park went viral.
The British High Commissioner applauded Hamza and his team for getting into action after noticing his pictures online. He hoped to work together to keep Islamabad clean.
“Bahut shukriya @ShafaqHashmi PAS @hamzashafqaat @dcislamabad for your commendable concern & action. I am humbled by the many responses – let’s keep working together for the #CleanIslamabadCampaign,” Dr Turner tweeted.
We must learn
As citizens of Pakistan, we must learn that it is our country and our duty to keep it clean. Instead, many resorts to littering, and others have no interest in cleaning it up. Keeping cleanliness is a part of the Muslim Faith. With about 97% of the population comprising of Muslims, it is high time we followed our own faith.
