Pakistan’s Army Chief visits Kabul to extend support for Afghan peace process

Pakistani Army Chief Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa reiterated Islamabad’s support for the Afghanistan peace process in a meeting with President Ashraf Ghani in Kabul on Monday amid growing reports of violence.

Chief of the Defence Staff UK General Sir Nicholas Patrick Carter was also present during the meeting.

Pakistan has played a key player in resolve the conflict, leading to a peace agreement between the US and the Taliban.

“We will always support ‘Afghan-led and Afghan-owned peace process based on mutual consensus of all stakeholders,” Gen Bajwa said.

“A peaceful Afghanistan means a peaceful region in general and a peaceful Pakistan in particular” he said according to an ISPR statemnet.

Afghan President thanked the Army Chief and appreciated Pakistan’s sincere and positive role in Afghan Peace Process.

The two sides discussed current developments in Afghan Peace Process, enhanced bilateral security and defence cooperation and need for effective border management between the two brotherly countries.

DG ISI Lt Gen Faiz Hamid also accompanied the Army Chief during the day-long official visit to Afghanistan.

Later, General Bajwa also called on Chairman of the High Council for National Reconciliation of Afghanistan Dr Abdullah Abdullah and discussed matters related to Afghan Peace Process.
