COVID-19: Over 1 million vaccinated in Pakistan, says Asad Umar

Vaccines being administered to frontline healthcare workers and senior citizens free of cost

Federal Minister Asad Umar said that over one million doses of coronavirus vaccine have been administered to date in Pakistan. He added that 2 million people have registered for the vaccine including senior citizens and frontline healthcare workers. Anyone over the age of 50 can get the vaccine after registration on 1166 through their cell phones.

“More than 76,000 vaccinations were carried out yesterday. Total number of people registered so far is now over two million. 600,000 health care workers and more than 1.4 million 50 plus. Please register if you are 50 plus,” Umar said in his tweet.

The minister also added that the momentum of the third wave was slowing down due to the lockdowns and urged the people to continue following the SOPs in order to keep it that way.

“Initial signs of positivity slowing. However, due to the momentum of the last two weeks patients on critical care & mortality will stay at high levels for some time. Please follow SOPs & be safe,” he said.

In order to meet the increasing demand, the government has also allowed private parties to import the vaccine. Currently, Russian vaccine Sputnik V is privately is available in Pakistan.
