In the wake of devastating floods and landslides that have affected multiple provinces in Pakistan, the European Union (EU) has announced €700,000 ($781,300) in humanitarian aid to support relief efforts.
The funds will be directed toward assisting vulnerable communities in some of the worst-hit regions, including Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, and Sindh.
The EU’s aid package will address urgent needs such as temporary shelter, clean water, sanitation, and essential relief supplies. The relief will be coordinated through the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC).
Taheeni Thammannagoda, who oversees the EU’s humanitarian programs in Pakistan, expressed the EU’s sympathy for the victims of the flooding. “The EU expresses heartfelt condolences to Pakistan for the lives lost in the exceptionally heavy monsoon rains, which have once again put the resilience of communities across the country to the test,” she said.
”The EU has made available funding to help our humanitarian partners on the ground respond and deliver essential lifesaving aid to affected families.”
The assistance comes on top of €11 million already provided by the EU for humanitarian support and disaster preparedness in Pakistan.
