EV Bus Service launched in Lahore: Punjab Transport Company receives 27 Yutong Electric Buses

Yutong Bus & Coach has delivered 27 Yutong E12PRO electric buses to the Punjab Transport Company (PTC), marking a significant step towards a greener future.

These buses are the first of their kind to be supplied to the province of Punjab and are expected to revolutionize urban transportation in Lahore, the second-largest city in Pakistan.

The electric buses were officially launched at an event held at the Lahore Expo Centre, Pakistan. The ceremony was attended by several prominent figures, including Chief Minister of Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif, and the Minister of Transport and Roads. High-level officials from the Ministry of Housing & Works and the Ministry of Communications also participated in the event, underscoring the significance of this development for Pakistan’s transport sector.

The delivery of the 27 Yutong E12PRO electric buses to PTC is a landmark achievement, as it introduces Pakistan’s largest fleet of battery-electric buses to the region. These buses are designed to operate as part of an eco-friendly public transportation initiative aimed at reducing carbon emissions, improving air quality, and enhancing the efficiency of public transit in the city.

Moving toward Cleaner Air and Sustainable Mobility

Yutong Bus & Coach expressed its pride in the milestone delivery, emphasizing that this is the company’s largest electric vehicle order in Pakistan. The delivery will make Lahore the city with the largest fleet of pure electric buses in the region. “This marks PTC’s first introduction of pure electric buses, setting a new standard for sustainable urban transport in the region,” said a Yutong spokesperson.

The introduction of electric buses is set to significantly reduce the carbon footprint of Lahore’s public transportation system. The buses will also contribute to improving air quality, making urban transport cleaner and more efficient. The initiative aligns with the global push for more sustainable, environmentally friendly transport solutions to combat pollution and climate change.

PTC becomes the region’s largest Electric Bus Operator

With the purchase of these 27 buses, Punjab Transport Company (PTC), a subsidiary of the Punjab Provincial Transport Authority, has become the largest battery-electric bus operator in the region. The move positions PTC as a key player in the transition towards more sustainable public transport options in Pakistan, making significant progress toward reducing dependence on fossil fuel-powered vehicles.

The buses are part of a broader vision to modernize public transport in Lahore and improve the overall urban mobility experience for residents. As part of the province’s continued commitment to environmental sustainability, these electric buses will not only reduce emissions but also provide a more reliable and efficient transport option for daily commuters.

Yutong, which entered the Pakistani market in 2008, has become the dominant Chinese bus brand in the region, with over 2,800 units sold. Yutong’s KD factory in Pakistan began operations in 2015, becoming the largest and most technologically advanced facility in the local bus industry. This investment introduced significant technological advancements to the local market.
