Residents of Islamabad witnessed huge black clouds of smoke emitting from Islamabad weekly bazaar at Peshawar Mor in G-9.
Rescue officials have succeeded in extinguishing a major part of the inferno but the fire torched some 600 stalls, according to news reports.
Around 12 fire tenders and dozens of firefighters were able to douse the flames along with help from local shopkeepers.
The fire was put out in one and a half hour because of the wind and the shops that contained garments and other goods that easily caught fire.
The officials claimed the fire was caused by shopkeepers who lit up garbage close to the market.
MNA Asad Umar reached the site soon after and instructed all to facilitate the people there.
Thankfully the market was closed today as it opens only on select days including Sunday, Tuesday, and Friday. No loss of life has been reported yet.
