All Pakistan Museums Conference 2015 will take place in Islamabad on Monday, 28th December 2015. The Conference is being organized by Museum Association of Pakistan (MAP) in collaboration with COMSATS Institute of Information Technology (CIIT).
This initiative follows the revival of the Association two years ago and is expected to serve as a forum for setting the strategic direction for the organization.
Heads of over 60 museums in the country are expected to attend the day-long conference, being held in the Business & Incubation Center (BIC) at CIIT’s Islamabad Campus in Chak Shahzad. The museum curators through their joint deliberations, during the conference, will attempt to define the future role of museums in Pakistan; outline the roadmap to strength museology and museography; and launch a source book about all museums in the country – ‘Museums of Pakistan 2015.’
Apart from this, the conference will also deliberate upon the formation of an advisory group in whichArchaeology & Museums Departments from all provinces and regions would be represented and various National Museum Day committees will also be formed. In future, the General Assembly of the Museum Association of Pakistan plans to meet on an annual basis in December each year.
Education that is devoid of the cultures of the people in the society is empty and incomplete and one of the fundamental objectives of museums is to educate, which is also a critical component of development. COMSATS has taken this initiative to encourage public awareness about museums, as they depict the journey of man through the ages and of how humanity has survived over the years. Museums also have an important role to play as custodians of the nation’s heritage and culture.
