First Snowfall of the season blankets Murree and Galiyat amid cold wave forecast

Murree witnessed its first snowfall of the winter season on Sunday, drawing a wave of visitors from Rawalpindi, Islamabad, and surrounding areas.

Families took to the hill station to enjoy the winter landscape as snow blanketed the region. To ensure smooth traffic flow, the administration worked swiftly, clearing roads and preparing for further snowfall.

The District Administration has set up 13 facilitation centers across Murree to assist tourists, with officials on hand to guide visitors. Additionally, the administration has been spreading salt on roads to prevent icy conditions and maintain safe travel.

Deputy Commissioner Murree Agha Abbas Shirazi said the administration has made excellent arrangements for tourists to enjoy the snowfall while ensuring their safety.
The local administration remains on alert as more snow is expected in the coming days.

Galiyat transformed into a winter wonderland

Galiyat, another popular hill station, also received its first snowfall of the season, turning the area into a picturesque winter wonderland. The snow has already attracted many tourists, boosting local tourism. In response, Rescue 1122 teams have been placed on high alert to manage emergencies and ensure the safety of visitors and residents.

District Emergency Officer Muhammad Arif Khattak advised caution, particularly on slippery roads, and recommended that travelers equip their vehicles with snow chains. We are ready to respond to any emergencies, a Rescue 1122 spokesperson said.

Despite efforts to clear the roads, sudden snowfalls could lead to temporary disruptions, and authorities have urged visitors to follow safety guidelines.

Weather Forecast: a cold spell sweeps across Pakistan

The Pakistan Meteorological Department has forecasted a powerful western weather system bringing rain and snowfall to various parts of the country.

Central and northern Punjab are expected to experience rain, with snowfall likely in hilly areas. The temperature in Lahore is expected to dip to a minimum of 8.5°C, with maximum temperatures reaching 24°C. The system will also bring colder winds, increasing the chill across the region.

Meanwhile, Karachi is experiencing a new wave of cold weather, with temperatures dropping to as low as 11°C. The shift in weather conditions is expected to continue, bringing cooler nights to various parts of Sindh.
