Islamabad COVID-19 situation update: 57,000 total cases reported till now

57,000 of Islamabad’s 2.3m were affected by coronavirus since pandemic began

Islamabad has witnessed a significant increase in coronavirus cases during the month of March as Pakistan braves against the third wave of the pandemic. Dr. Muhammad Zaeem Zia, District Health Officer Islamabad, has issued the latest figures related to the pandemic in the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT).

Daily Numbers

  • To date, over 57,000 positive cases have been reported in the federal capital with a mortality rate of less than 1%. Islamabad has a population of 2.3 million people.
  • March 2021 began with less than 150 positive cases a day and ended up with 700-800 cases.
  • The highest number of cases in a single day were reported on March 28 with 856 confirmed positive cases. 

Deaths

There were a total of 563 deaths reported in Islamabad

Recovery ratio

A total of 47,523 patients have recovered, according to official stats.

Stats by Age

  • The age demographic between 21 to 45 years of age has been the most affected in Islamabad. (22,848 cases reported in 21 – 30 years age group while 24,287 cases reported in 31 – 45 years of age).
  • At least 5,726 cases were reported in children up to the age of 10 years, which is quite alarming.
  • The patients suffering from coronavirus are predominantly men, accounting for almost 60% of the confirmed patients.

Hospitals’ Situation

  • Currently, 45% of the designated 710 beds for the coronavirus are vacant.
  • 51 of the 105 ventilators are also available at this point in time.
  • Typically people with mild symptoms are self-quarantining at home.

Creating Awareness

The local healthcare workers have been creating awareness in the ICT region with nearly 22,000 homes visited and enlightened them about COVID-19.
