Commuters in Islamabad’s high-security Red Zone can soon expect a smoother and quicker ride, thanks to a new initiative by the Islamabad Traffic Police.
In a bid to reduce traffic congestion and enhance security measures, a “verified lane” will be introduced, allowing registered civilian vehicles to bypass long queues and security checks.
The plan, developed by the city’s Security Division, has already been submitted to top officials for approval, and once finalized, it will allow vehicles that meet certain criteria to use a dedicated lane in the Red Zone. To gain access, vehicles must first be registered with the Islamabad Police, and drivers will need to obtain a special sticker.
How it works
Once a vehicle is registered and verified, it will be eligible to use the “Verified Lane,” which will not require the usual security checks. This initiative is expected to save time for commuters who regularly access the area, especially those who work or conduct business in the vicinity of key government buildings.
“The Verified Lane is a step towards making traffic more efficient and reducing unnecessary delays in the Red Zone,” said a senior official from the Islamabad Traffic Police. “This lane is designed to facilitate those who have already been vetted by the authorities, allowing them to pass through without the usual security checks.”
Move to streamline Traffic and enhance Safety
The Verified Lane initiative is the latest in a series of steps taken by the Islamabad Police to address traffic management and road safety.
While the plan for the Verified Lane has been submitted, the final decision on its implementation will rest with the Inspector General of Islamabad. If approved, the lane could become operational in the near future, providing a much-needed relief for those navigating the busy and often congested roads of the Red Zone.
Last month, the federal government issued a critical reminder about the dangers of drinking and driving, urging citizens to be more responsible behind the wheel. The reminder, particularly aimed at the large number of foreigners and expatriates living in Islamabad, emphasizes that alcohol consumption and driving is illegal and extremely dangerous, endangering not only the driver but also pedestrians and other motorists.
Digital Parking System in Islamabad
In related news, Islamabad’s drive to modernize its infrastructure continues with the introduction of a new digital parking system. The Capital Development Authority (CDA) recently launched the system, which aims to reduce the frustration of finding parking in busy areas. The system is expected to be expanded to more commercial centers and markets in the coming months.
According to CDA officials, revenue generated from the digital parking initiative will be reinvested into improving local infrastructure and public services in Islamabad, with parliamentarians expressing their full support for the project.
