The families submitted affidavits in the court, forgiving the accused for the sake of Allah
The families of two of the four deceased in a traffic accident have forgiven the driver and son of Kashmala Tariq, the federal ombudsperson for Protection against Harassment of Women. On February 2nd, an accident caused by Tariq’s vehicle left four dead and one badly injured. While the son of the senior politician was accused, the family maintained that it was the driver behind the wheel.
The investigators requested that the bail of Tariq’s son be canceled and he is remanded to them. However, the family’s lawyer sought some more time, presenting the families of two of the four deceased. The families forgave Tariq’s son and driver for the sake of the Almighty.
“For the sake of Allah, we have no objection over the release of her driver and son on bail, quash the case and discharge them from the case,” as per their statements. The court asked the parents of the deceased to submit formal paperwork for the process to be completed.
The families of the victims submitted separate affidavits for pardoning the accused. These affidavits were read to them in Urdu to ensure that they fully understood it. The case is still ongoing since it can only be quashed after the families of the two other deceased and the injured person also follow suit.
Stricter laws needed
The case has been in the news due to the parents of one of the accused. There have been conflicting reports about who was driving the SUV that crushed the Mehran at a high speed. While the family of the accused blames the driver, many quarters are suggesting that it was the son who drove at fast speed under the influence of alcohol. Either way, a detailed inquiry is a must. If all families pardon the accused, the case will be quashed. A settlement as such would only leave a lack of justice and not a true resolution. We surely need stricter laws that ensure that influential families are not able to twist and turn facts to their benefit and get away with anything.
