Metro bus service for Islamabad airport to commence from March 23

Separately, CDA is planning to procure 29 buses to ply on 3 main routes of the federal capital

Metro Bus Service from Peshawar Mor to the New Islamabad International Airport is scheduled to commence from March 23.

Preparations are underway to inaugurate the Metro Bus Service on Pakistan day, according to media reports. The 27km road from Peshawar Mor to the New Islamabad Airport has already been constructed by the National Highway Authority (NHA) for this purpose. The road construction, costing Rs16 billion, was completed in March last year.

A Capital Mass Transit Authority will be constituted to supervise the functioning and the service of the new route and the buses. The transit authority will be set up under an act of parliament. Full control of the authority will be given to the Capital Development Authority (CDA).

Details of the bus service

The Peshawar Mor Central Station has been selected as the designated pick-up point for the Islamabad airport route. CDA will operate a shuttle bus service from three different points in Islamabad to the Peshawar Mor Central Station. A total of 30 metro buses will run on this route, from 7 am till 11 pm. The service timings on this route are predicted to increase over time. The fare on this route will be Rs. 30 per passenger.

Under the Rawalpindi Regional Transport Authority, a coaster bus service from Koral and Rawat will also be operated, as this route has been approved. Initially, the permits have been issued for the operation of ten vehicles.

Cheap and comfortable rides

The Metro bus service to Islamabad airport will provide cheap and comfortable rides to passengers, citizens, and employees traveling from Islamabad to New Islamabad Airport. Commencement of the Metro bus operations is expected to solve serious problems of overloading and overcharging of public transport along this route.

CDA to procure 29 buses for public service

Separately, CDA has decided to procure 29 buses for plying them on three different routes in Islamabad. The new bus service will run on the routes including:

  • Soan Garden to Faisal Mosque
  • Bhara Kahu to Faiz Ahmed Faiz metro bus station
  • Tarnol railway station to the M5 metro station

Public bus service PC-I for the plan has already been approved and tender documents are being finalized. Once the tender documents are finalized, the CDA will call tenders for purchasing new buses.
