Mobile phone internet service restored in areas of Balochistan and KP after 5 years

Mobile Internet service was suspended due to ‘security reasons’

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has allowed the mobile phone operators to restore internet services in several areas of Balochistan and Khyber district in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as the security situation improved.

Mobile Internet service was suspended in these regions for the last five years due to ‘security reasons’. The PTA announced the decision after receiving security clearance from the concerned departments.

People will now be able to use the internet in these areas:

  • Turbat city
  • Kech
  • Panjgur
  • Awaran
  • Washuk
  • Kalat
  • Awaran-Bela Road

The Khyber district (formerly known as Khyber Agency) in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has also been cleared.

“Cellular Mobile Operators (CMOs) will also be directed to upgrade their existing infrastructure from 2G sites to 3G/4G where feasible, and consider network expansion so that better voice and data services can be extended to residents of these areas” PTA said.

The restoration of data services will help residents to fulfil their educational, health, commerce and communication needs.
