Natalie Baker takes charge as US deputy chief of mission to Pakistan

The U.S. Mission to Pakistan announced the arrival of Natalie A. Baker as the new Deputy Chief of Mission (DCM) at the U.S. Embassy in Islamabad on August 15.

Natalie Baker brings a wealth of experience to her new role, having previously served as Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. Embassy in Doha, Qatar. Her extensive career with the U.S. Department of State includes pivotal roles such as Director of the Office of North African Affairs in the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Near Eastern Affairs and Deputy Chief and Chargé d’Affaires ad interim at the U.S. Mission to Libya.

Her career highlights also include serving as Deputy Director of the Iran Regional Presence Office at the U.S. Consulate in Dubai and as Economic Counselor at the U.S. Embassy in Kuwait, where she played a key role in coordinating the withdrawal of U.S. forces from Iraq.

Natalie’s tenure in Libya from 2009 to 2011 was notable for her role in reestablishing diplomatic relations following a nearly 30-year hiatus until the Libyan Revolution necessitated the evacuation of the U.S. Embassy in February 2011.

Her earlier assignments include positions as Special Assistant in the Bureau of Near Eastern Affairs, Consular Officer in Islamabad, and Cultural Officer in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan.

Natalie holds a Bachelor’s degree from Princeton University and a Master’s degree in Public Policy from Harvard University. She is also a distinguished graduate of the National War College, National Defense University of the United States of America, class of 2017.

As she steps into her new role, Natalie Baker’s extensive experience and diplomatic expertise are expected to strengthen the U.S.-Pakistan partnership and advance mutual interests in the region.
