Pakistan launches bird strike awareness campaign in airport vicinity during Eid ul Azha

Pakistan aviation authorities have initiated the ‘Bird Strike Threat Awareness Campaign’ ahead of Eid ul Azha to ensure the safety of the aircraft and passengers.

Pakistan’s Environmental Control Committee (ECC) held a meeting at the Islamabad International Airport earlier this week regarding an awareness campaign focused on cleanliness in the airport vicinity throughout Eid ul Azha. The meeting witnessed active participation from crucial stakeholders including airlines, Ground Handling Agents, Civil Aviation Authority, local police administration, and representatives from the district administration, including Fateh Jang and Cantt assistant commissioners.

Under the awareness campaign, highly visible banners will be strategically displayed not only at Islamabad Airport but also in the surrounding areas. These attention-grabbing banners will serve as constant reminders for everyone to maintain vigilance and undertake necessary precautions during this festive season.

Safety Campaigns in Various Cities

Pakistan Air Force (PAF) and Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) have launched a comprehensive awareness campaign to address the potential risks associated with birds during the Eid ul Azha festival. The campaign aims to ensure the safety of aircraft and passengers by raising awareness about bird strikes and promoting responsible waste disposal.

  • Gilgit International Airport joined the initiative by kick-starting a bird strike hazard awareness campaign. The campaign included a door-to-door awareness drive, distribution of pamphlets, and awareness sessions with stakeholders, particularly residents living near the airport. Banners with cleanliness messages were displayed, and flyers were distributed among the general public in the airport vicinity.
  • In Lahore, a similar awareness campaign was launched in collaboration with the district administration. Pamphlets were distributed around the airport, cattle markets, and mosques to raise awareness about bird activity management.
  • Jinnah International Airport Karachi conducted a bird strike threat awareness campaign in the surrounding areas. The campaign focused on encouraging the proper disposal of sacrificial remains during Eid-ul-Adha and highlighted the potential dangers of bird collisions with aircraft. Informative pamphlets were distributed, banners were displayed, and disposal bags were provided to the local population. Meetings were held with local authorities, community dignitaries, and religious leaders to emphasize the importance of safe disposal practices.

Pakistan Air Force’s safety message

Furthermore, the PAF released a special safety message regarding the proper disposal of sacrificial remains. The statement emphasized that the remains of sacrificial animals attract large birds, which can collide with high-speed aircraft, causing accidents and loss of lives. The public was urged to dispose of animal remains in designated places, bury them in the ground, and ensure cleanliness in their surroundings.
