Pakistan Navy and the Turkish Navy have successfully concluded their bilateral naval exercise, Turgutreis-XI, in the Eastern Mediterranean Sea, reinforcing their longstanding maritime cooperation.
Named after the renowned Ottoman Admiral Turgut Reis, the Turgutreis series of exercises symbolizes the deep-rooted maritime legacy shared by both nations. This latest drill, which saw both navies engaging in a series of tactical maneuvers and maritime operations, underscores the strong naval ties between Pakistan and Turkey.
A key highlight of the exercise was the participation of the Pakistan Navy’s newly commissioned ship, PNS Yamama, marking her maiden voyage from Romania to Pakistan. The ship was joined by Turkish Navy vessels TCG Buyukada, TCG Derya, and the TNF SH-70 helicopter, which collectively showcased the collaborative spirit of both forces.
The exercise was strategically designed to enhance the interoperability of the two navies. As the participating units engaged in various operational scenarios, they strengthened their capabilities to address emerging maritime challenges and ensure the security of regional waters.
In a statement, the Pakistan Navy reaffirmed the importance of such exercises in fostering mutual cooperation. “This exercise highlights our shared objective of maintaining safe and secure global commons for the benefit of all. Both navies remain committed to furthering their cooperation in ensuring regional maritime security,” the statement read.
The successful completion of Turgutreis-XI not only exemplifies the growing defense relationship between Pakistan and Turkey but also reflects their dedication to safeguarding international maritime stability.
