Winter Olympics 2022 kicks off in Beijing with an impressive opening ceremony

Prime Minister Imran Khan joined several world leaders at Beijing’s iconic Bird’s Nest Stadium to witness the opening ceremony of the Winter Olympics 2022 on Friday.

The prime minister reached China on February 3 to attend the impressive ceremony of the Winter Olympics and hold crucial meetings with the Chinese leadership. He is accompanied by Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry and Planning and Development Minister Asad Umar on the occasion.

Chinese President Xi Jinping declared the Games open, in front of about 40,000 home audiences and a host of state leaders and international dignitaries, including Russian President Vladimir Putin, Pakistan’s Prime Minister Imran Khan United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and leaders from UAE, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Qatar among others.

Hundreds of performers carried colour-changing rods during the opening light spectacle at the 2022 Winter Olympics.

China hosted an eye-catching ceremony to officially begin the 2022 Winter Olympics. It was the second time Beijing hosted an Olympic opening ceremony and made history as the first city to host both a Summer and a Winter Games.

Around 2,900 athletes from 91 countries and regions are competing in Beijing 2022, a demonstration that sport can lead the way in reuniting the world with the Olympic spirit. Alpine skier Mohammad Karim is the lone Pakistani alpine skier representing Pakistan in the Beijing Winter Olympics 2022.
