Pakistan has strongly condemned Indian lawmaker’s blasphemous remarks against Holy Prophet (PBUH), saying such derogatory remarks hurt the feelings of not only Pakistanis but also billions of Muslims around the world.
In a statement released by the foreign office on Wednesday, Pakistan condemned the “highly provocative and sacrilegious remarks” made against the Holy Prophet (PBUH), by a BJP leader, Raja Singh, who is also a member of the legislative assembly of the Indian state of Telangana.
It was the second time in the last three months that a senior leader of India’s ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) made disrespectful comments against the Holy Prophet (PBUH), according to the foreign office statement.
“These highly derogatory remarks have gravely hurt the feelings of the people of Pakistan and billions of Muslims around the world, read the statement.
A Foreign office spokesperson, Asim Iftikhar Ahmad pointed out that “the token and perfunctory disciplinary action taken by the BJP against the said official cannot assuage the pain and anguish caused to the Muslims of India and around the world”.
Earlier on Tuesday, following the demands of enraged Muslim groups, Indian police had detained BJP leader T. Raja Singh on suspicion of “promoting enmity in the name of religion”. However, he was released on bail within hours of arrest and was welcomed by BJP zealots and the act was highly reprehended by Pakistan.
The FO statement further said that Modi-led India is nothing more than an undeclared ‘Hindu Rashtra’ where religious beliefs of Muslims are trampled under ‘majoritarian hegemonism’, and denigrating, dispossessing and marginalizing Muslims is a matter of routine.
The deafening silence of the top BJP leadership on the abhorrent incident was called out by the FO, noting that it manifestly reflected the approval and full support to the radical Hindu zealots within and beyond the BJP.
“Pakistan demands the Indian government to take immediate and decisive action against the BJP members habitually involved in attacking Islam and targeting the dignity of beloved Prophet (PBUH),” the statement added.
