Pakistan government announces rollout of booster shots from Jan 1

Pakistan health authorities have announced the general rollout of booster COVID-19 vaccinations to people in their 30s and above.

The National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) has lowered the age limit for booster dose amid Omicron variant fears which has also been reported in Pakistan.

“It has been decided in the session that the individuals with 30 years plus age are eligible to get a booster dose of their own choice from January 1, 2022,” the NCOC said in a statement. The meeting reviewed the vaccination targets and future vaccination campaigns.

Asad Umar, who is the chief of NCOC, has requested Pakistanis to get vaccinated as soon as possible to protect themselves from the new variants of coronavirus.

  • Total doses administered: 142 million
  • Fully vaccinated citizens: 61.7 million
  • Partially vaccinated: 89 million
