Pakistani baby goat ‘Simba’ with unusually long ears becomes a local celebrity

A newborn baby goat in Karachi has become a celebrity both locally and internationally due to its unusually long ears measuring half a meter.

The baby goat, named Simba, could be recognized by Guinness World Records for its unusually long ears. The goat was born with ears as long as 48 cm and in less than a month its ears have already reached 53 cm and are still growing.

Simba’s owner Muhammad Hassan Narejo claims that the kid’s ears are already 10 cm longer than of the current record holder, a goat born in Saudi Arabia. Narejo has already applied to the Guinness book team and is awaiting a reply.

“I applied to the Guinness book team,” he told Arab News over the weekend. “They have successfully accepted our request and we are expecting their answers in 10 to 12 weeks.”

Simba was born at Narejo’s home in Karachi on June 4. The owner named the goat inspired Disney’s “The Lion King” animated feature, where baby lion was named Simba.

“Simba means a lion,” he said. “This name clicked in my mind, so I gave this name to this goat baby.”

Narejo said he was surprised to see the unusually long ears of the baby goat when it was born. The goat’s earlobes are already half a meter long and keep on growing. As Simba walks, its ears drag on the floor and wiggle in the wind.

Narejo also owns a farm in Sanghar where he has been breading goats from the Lady and Barbari breeds for the past four years. Simba is from the Lady breed, which generally has longer ears, although not this long.

“This is a giant size,” he said. “I went to the tailor and made a special bag for this baby goat. We carry the ears in the bag.”

Simba’s ears are longer than its body. The kid’s pelage is also rare, as the ears are white while rest of its body has a camel-color coat.

Breeders in Saudi Arabia and Oman are already sending offers to buy Simba, claimed the owner.

“They say, ‘you set the price and we will buy.’ But so far, my focus is to bring Simba into the Guinness Book of World Records, register it with the name of Simba Pakistani, make Pakistan feel proud.”
