Engro and Dawood Hercules chairperson Hussain Dawood pledged Rs 1 billion to combat COVID-19 in Pakistan
Pakistan’s business magnate and philanthropist, Hussain Dawood, has pledged PKR 1 billion for the fight against COVID-19 in Pakistan.
He announced the donation on behalf of Engro, Dawood Hercules and his family.
“We are committed to help solve some of the most pressing issues of our time and it is incumbent upon us to serve our nation best when it needs us most. These are our fundamental values, that continue to be at the core of what we strive to achieve.”
He emphasized that “We must work on several fronts concurrently. The need of the hour is to target on reducing the spread and impact of this virus.
The group welcomed the efforts of Pakistan Government and other credible organizations that have stepped up to this challenge. Mr. Dawoaod also paid tributes to the people of Pakistan, health workers, armed forces and all segments involved in the contribution.
“It is a fact that the people of Pakistan are resilient, and I pray that they face this crisis with caution and care by heeding to the invaluable advice of healthcare professionals and caring for themselves, their families and their communities. I also acknowledge the Government and armed forces’ commitment and the selfless dedication of our fellow citizens such as healthcare workers, law enforcement personnel, NGOs, essential services, city cleaners and countless others, who are risking their lives while toiling against the pandemic. The donation and the assistance from the Group will focus on:
- Disease prevention, with a major focus on testing and diagnostics;
- Protecting and enabling healthcare practitioners and other key workers, who are at the frontline of the fight against this pandemic;
- Enabling patient care and facilities; and,
- Bolster livelihoods and sustenance of the most deserving in society.
