With this achievement, Turkiye not only surpassed its target of welcoming 60 million visitors but also positioned itself as one of the world’s most sought-after travel destinations. Held in November, the 46th edition of the Istanbul Marathon attracted over 7,500 runners, and Pakistan’s Amjad Ali achieved an impressive feat, finishing 47th in the marathon with a time of 2 hours, 49 minutes, and 29 seconds in the 42-kilometer race.
2024 is Türkiye’s most successful year in tourism
The year 2024 has been Türkiye’s most successful year in tourism, according to the Turkish officials. The growth in visitor numbers and the increase in tourism revenue clearly reflect the country’s appeal to international travelers, especially those from emerging markets.
Europe, the Middle East, and Central Asia remain Türkiye’s largest source regions, while emerging markets like the USA and China saw impressive growth in 2024. The United States recorded an 8.1% increase in visitors, while China’s numbers surged by a remarkable 65.1%. Despite these new gains, Turkiye’s traditional top markets—Russia, Germany, and the United Kingdom—continued to contribute the most visitors.
On average, international tourists spent 10.7 days in Türkiye, contributing significantly to the nation’s tourism revenue, which reached $972 per visitor. As a result, Türkiye has cemented its place among the world’s top five most visited countries, according to the United Nations Tourism report for 2023.

With its rich culture, diverse landscapes, and world-class hospitality, the country is expected to maintain its position as a key global tourism hub in the years to come.
