Cabinet defers decision to import cotton and sugar from India
Pakistan’s cabinet deferred a decision made by rge top economic decision-making body to allow imports of cotton and sugar from India.
Cabinet announced its decision on Thursday following the cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Imran Khan.
Pakistan’s Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) on Wednesday approved the imports of goods from India to stabilize prices.
Pakistan cabinet deferred the decision to open trade with India until Delhi reviews its 2019 move to revoke the special status of Juammu and Kashmir.
“It was a consensus opinion, including the prime minister, that as long as India doesn’t review August 5, 2019, unilateral steps it took, it wouldn’t be possible to normalize relations with India,” Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi said.
