PM Imran greenlights formulation of Pakistan’s first-ever drone policy

The drones can be useful in various fields such as agriculture, urban planning, and safety and security

Prime Minister Imran Khan has given the green signal to formulate Pakistan’s first-ever drone policy after meeting with Fawad Chaudhary, the federal minister for science and technology.

Drones are now used for multiple purposes, including providing many support activities in agriculture, urban planning, and safety and security, PM Khan said. A good policy will help boost the industry and take agriculture and other industries using the technology towards modernization.

Fawad said the new policy would allow drone production. “Drone manufacturing industry will get a huge boost,” he said. “Import of sophisticated drones will also be allowed.”

In July this year, Pakistan’s Ministry of Science and Technology signed an MoU with ABM SATUMA (Private) Ltd for the development of UAVs/drones for agriculture application. The drones were specifically designed to counter locust attacks that caused havoc across the country.
