Prime Minister Imran Khan was able to secure 178 votes in the vote of confidence proceedings in the National Assembly. The Prime Minister called for a renewed vote of confidence after PTI lost in Senate’s election.

Khan needed a total of 172 votes to win the vote of confidence. The motion for the vote of confidence was tabled by the foreign minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi.

Imran Khan congratulated his party and said that he will now emerge stronger than before.

“I would also like to congratulate my party who came out of this trying time. Once you clear an obstacle in life, one only emerges stronger,” said the prime minister.

The current government is at the midway stage of its tenure and has faced a number of economic, political and social challenges. By securing the vote of confidence, Imran Khan looks to be on the path to become the first prime minister of Pakistan to complete a five year tenure. While multiple elected governments have completed their five-year terms, none of the prime minister has been able to do so.
