Special Assistant to the Prime Minister for Overseas Affairs Zulfiqar Abbas Bukhari attended the inauguration of the Global Active Cities, Pakistan, a project in the Rawalpindi Division. Former international cricketer Shoaib Akhter was also present at the occasion along with Commissioner Rawalpindi Captain (retd) Muhammad Mahmood, Deputy Commissioners of Rawalpindi, Attock, and Chakwal, divisional administration officers and officials. The guests at the event also participated in a fitness session. It was ensured that coronavirus SOPs were followed.
Zulfi Bukhari for a healthy lifestyle
Zulfi Bukhari said appreciated the project and said that under the Global Active Cities project, sports would be promoted in the Rawalpindi division and people would be encouraged towards healthy living. “Our religion also teaches us to live a healthy life, and obesity, overeating, and sluggishness are bad habits that have no place in our religion,” he said.
He also praised the Prime Minister on his fitness levels, calling him the most physically active prime minister in the world. He said that Khan wanted to promote a healthy lifestyle in the country. Shoaib Akhter praised the commissioner of Rawalpindi for the effort to help people get physically fit.
Commissioner vows more facilities in Rawalpindi
Commissioner Rawalpindi Captain (Retd) Muhammad Mahmood said that with the help of Global Active Project, they want to introduce a culture that promotes a healthy lifestyle in the society. He added that there are many playgrounds in Rawalpindi and they would be further improved and equipped with more facilities under this project.
Health issues are a concern
People in Pakistan generally maintain a sedentary lifestyle in the cities with little in terms of healthy activities. People typically consume extremely unhealthy greasy foods to further compound the problems. With the availability of such facilities, people will get a chance to get out of their homes, they will improve their general health.
