Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) is all set to kick off the “Jail BharoTehreek” today to counter the “attack” on the party’s fundamental rights and the economic “meltdown.”
The drive will begin from Lahore’s Mall Road at 2 pm today, Wednesday.
Chairman PTI Imran Khan said in a series of tweets on Wednesday said the party will start Jail Bharo campaign for #HaqeeqiAzadi for two main reasons,
- Against the attack on PTI’s constitutionally-guaranteed fundamental rights.
- Against economic meltdown brought on by a cabal of crooks who have money laundered billions in looted wealth and gotten NROs for themselves while crushing the poor
Senior Leadership Volunteers to surrender for Court Arrest
In the first phase of the Jail BharoTehreekthe party’s senior leaders, PTI Vice Chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi and PTI Secretary General Asad Umar have volunteered to surrender themselves before the law enforcers, Fawad Chaudhry told during a press conference in Lahore.
Shah Mahmood Qureshi, in a separate statement, said that he and four other PTI leaders would surrender themselves, and if law enforcement did not arrest them, they would attempt again from Multan.
Hundreds aim for jail
Hundreds of PTI Supporters are gearing up to take to the streets in Lahore to kick off the ‘Jail Bharo Tehreek’ with over 200 supporters reportedly agreeing to offer court arrest. The PTI’s social media division kept busy all day in anticipation of the campaign, as party leaders and activists shared messages to encourage supporters to participate in the “phase-wise” court arrest drive.
Earlier Imran Khan, in a video message posted on PTI’s official Twitter account, called on individuals to “fill up prisons”.
Jihad
PTI chief said the Jail BharoTehreek is actually a “jihad”.
“Actually, this campaign will take you to a free and happy Pakistan. And this will only happen when the state protects your fundamental rights,” he said, adding that the Jail BharoTehreek “is the name of jihad”.
PTI chief announced the “Jail BharoTehreek” on Feb 4 in the wake of sedition cases filed against his party leaders including Azam Swati, Shehbaz Gill, and Fawad Chaudhry.
Fawad Chaudhry said PTI’s Jail Bharo drive would test the capacities of the prisons and the police stations as hundreds of workers have come forward on the call of Imran Khan.
