Role of Media stressed in Education Policy

Islamabad— Media and civil professionals on Tuesday attended a rare Seminar at the ‘Media and Civil Society Collaboration Workshop’ in Islamabad. The speakers proposed an alliance between media and education activists to improve the dismal state of Education sector in Pakistan. The Workshop was organized by Pakistan Coalition for Education (PCE) and sponsored by Open Society Institute.

A number of local journalists and education experts representing various organizations attended the one-day workshop.

Addressing the workshop Zehra Arshad, National Coordinator of PCE said “Our vision is to ensure quality education for all, irrespective of gender, religion and class differences”.

Mukhtar Ahmed Ali, Executive Director of Center for Peace and Development Initiative (CPDI), while addressing the participants pointed out that despite the fact that basic education is the right of every citizen, many Pakistanis were deprived of this basic right.

The workshop was also addressed by Zaigham Khan, a Development Consultant who emphasized that Pakistani media should play a forceful role in educating and disseminating the awareness among masses.
