Interior Minister advised Prime Minister Imran Khan to call early elections after budget
Pakistan’s Interior Minister Sheikh Rasheed said he had advised Prime Minister Imran Khan to call early elections after the federal budget for the fiscal year 2022-23 is presented.
“I’m asking for early elections after presenting a good budget because this incompetent opposition has allowed us to win again,” Rashid said. However, he added that this was his own opinion and not of the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party or the prime minister.
Rasheed said that the popularity of Prime Minister Imran Khan and PTI had increased manifold following the opposition’s submission of a no-trust resolution against him.
Imran Khan is expected to face a vote of no-confidence in a move sponsored by an alliance of opposition group.
On March 26, supporters of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman, head of the Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam (F) party, began their “long march” to the capital to put pressure on Khan.
Meanwhile, tens of thousands of supporters of PM Imran Khan also began arriving in Islamabad in a show of support and attend the PTI public rally on March 27.
PM Imran Khan has expressed confidence that it will be a “historic” rally in Islamabad ahead of the start of no-confidence proceedings against him. “The biggest ever sea of people will gather in the capital to give the message to these criminals (opposition) that their days of looting and plundering are over,” Khan said while addressing a public meeting in Punjab’s Kamalia city.
