Sir Ganga Ram’s great-granddaughter Kesha Ram becomes US senator

Kesha Ram wore shalwar kameez during the swearing-in ceremony

Kesha Ram, the descendant of Ganga Ram, the father of modern Lahore, has has become the State Senator of Vermont USA and she celebrated the moment by wearing a white shalwar kameez during the swearing-in ceremony.

She is the great-granddaughter of Sir Ganga Ram who designed and built several of Lahore’s landmarks are interred.

Kesha Ram wrote on Twitter: “Sworn in to the Vermont Senate today. I wore white for those who came before me and made this day possible, and I wore a salwar kameez for those who will come after me that want to bring their whole selves into the halls of power”.

Democrat Kesha Ram made history as she became the first woman of color to be elected to the Vermont Senate in a state that’s more than 94 percent white. “I am the first woman of color and the youngest woman in history in the state Senate, so that someone can transform that record,” said 34-year-old Kesha Ram.

The US Consulate General Lahore congratulated Ram on her appointment to which she replied, expressing her gratitude for the people of Lahore.
