Islamabad – Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority (PCAA) has permitted five United Arab Emirates (UAE) airlines to carry out unlimited operations from four new Airports in Pakistan: Quetta, Panjgur, Turbat and Gawadar. The initiative will facilitate the citizens of local districts to fly abroad directly from their hometowns.Bilateral Air Services Agreement talks between Pakistan and UAE were held in Islamabad to discuss bilateral air services agreement and related issues.

The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) said in a statement that the new airports opened for the UAE airlines were Quetta, Panjgur, Turbat and Gwadar. The UAE airlines are already operating daily flights to and from Multan, Faisalabad and Sialkot.

Pakistani airlines will also enjoy unlimited traffic rights from all airports of Pakistani to all airports of UAE and would be free to operate beyond UAE to any other country of the world.

The CAA said traffic rights to the UAE airlines for Lahore, Islamabad and Peshawar had been frozen at the current level for the time-being because of infrastructure constraints at the airports concerned.

Open skies arrangements between Dubai and Karachi concluded in 1998 remained intact, it added.

All outstanding issues like replacement of obsolete text of the 1973 bilateral air services agreement and other anomalies in various memorandums of understanding have been removed.

The air traffic rights are now city pair specific and no more airline specific as had been the case earlier.

The initiative by Pakistan and UAE would benefit travellers because competition would ensure quality services at lower prices, the CAA said.

Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) appreciated the initiative and believe the agreement will lead to the betterment of airlines services in the country.
