United States Deputy Chief of Mission (DCM) Andrew Schofer and Consul General Lahore Kristin Hawkins recently visited Multan to celebrate South Punjab’s rich history and highlight U.S. support for cultural preservation in Pakistan.
During their visit, DCM Schofer and CG Hawkins toured significant historical sites, including the shrines of Musa Pak Shaheed, Shah Shams Tabraiz, Bahauddin Zakaria, Shah Rukn-e-Alam, and Multan’s famous clock tower. Since 2001, the U.S. government has funded 35 cultural preservation projects in Pakistan, including the conservation of the Musa Pak Shaheed shrine and the restoration of the Hazrat Shah Shams Tabraiz shrine.
“The power of cultural preservation work extends far beyond individual sites and projects – as historically important and visually impressive as they are,” stated DCM Schofer. “These U.S.-funded projects spur economic development in Pakistan, engage local communities, foster respect for cultural diversity, and strengthen our U.S.-Pakistan partnership.”
The visit underscored the ongoing collaboration between the U.S. and Pakistan in preserving the region’s cultural heritage and promoting economic and community development through these initiatives.
