China to support Pakistan combat COVID-19 just as Pakistan helped China during the pandemic outbreak: Chinese Ambassador

China is always ready to extend all possible help to Pakistan as the country supported its friend during tough times, Chinese ambassador.

“Whatever help we can make we are ready to help. The Chinese nation was touched when Dr. Alvi visited China amid epidemic. Pakistan sent assistance to us when China was suffering. China and Pakistan are standing as responsible partners to regional and global challenges” Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan Yao Jing said.

He made the comments in his meeting with Minister of State for SAFRON and Narcotics Affairs Shehryar Afridi as the Chinese embassy made a donation of 1500 food packs for the Afghan refugees confined in camps due to lockdown situation amid coronavirus pandemic.

The donation was made on the request of Mr. Afridi who has written letters to the United Nations and diplomatic missions based in Islamabad to help assist the Afghan refugees.

Chinese Ambassador lauded the regional and global initiatives taken by Prime Minister Imran Khan and said that Pakistan’s role in helping out the Afghan refugees would long be remembered. Pakistan, he said, was not only generously hosting millions of Afghans over the past four decades but also playing a key role in bringing peace and normalcy to war-torn Afghanistan.

It was due to Pakistan’s lead role that Afghan peace process was making progress which would shape the future of the Afghan nation.

“Today’s donation is a token to appreciate the efforts and leadership provided by Shehryar Afridi who despite COVID-19 disease has been actively engaged in affairs of national significance. Our humble gesture is to pay tribute to Pakistan’s generous support to Afghan refugees over four decades” he said.

China has also made a donation to the UNHCR and will further facilitate Pakistan’s efforts. “Pakistan has been hosting Afghan refugees for the past 40 years despite our financial constraints. We have around 2.8 million Afghans out of which 32 percent has been living in 54 camps in across Pakistan” Minister Afridi said. The minister said that out of these camps, 82 percent are daily wage employees who are trapped in lockdown and are struggling for survival.

SAFRON Minister Shehryar Afridi said “The way China has helped WHO and other significant global initiatives is model for the world. China, Pakistan friendship has become a classic example of good neighborhood and friendship,” he added. Afridi said China proved its leadership role in helping the world nations mitigate the disease. .
