AirAsia X (AAX), the long-haul affiliate of AirAsia, is ramping up its international network with the announcement of a new direct flight route from Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KUL) to Jinnah International Airport (KHI) in Karachi, Pakistan.
This new service is set to launch on May 30, 2025, and will operate four times a week—on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays.
This new route is part of AirAsia X’s ongoing international expansion. The airline now operates a total of 22 routes across various regions, strengthening its position as a key player in the affordable medium-haul travel market.
Connecting Malaysia and Karachi
The new route marks a significant milestone for AirAsia X, as it will become the only low-cost carrier offering a nonstop connection between Kuala Lumpur and Karachi. The addition of this service will provide a more affordable travel option for both Malaysian citizens and the sizable Pakistani community residing in Malaysia.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Malaysia, over 200,000 Pakistanis live in Malaysia as of November 2024. This makes the Pakistani diaspora the largest such community in Southeast Asia, as well as the sixth largest group of foreign workers in the country. This new route aims to cater to the growing demand for affordable travel between the two nations while strengthening the cultural and business ties between Malaysia and Pakistan.
“As we build on our strong growth momentum in 2024, we are thrilled to launch AAX’s next adventure in Karachi, further strengthening our presence in the South Asian market,” Benyamin Ismail, AirAsia X CEO said in a statement. “Karachi is a dynamic city with a rich history and a thriving modern economy, and we are proud to be the sole low-cost carrier connecting this vibrant metropolis to our extensive network beyond Malaysia.”
Ismail also emphasized the broader connectivity benefits, stating: “This route will also open up hundreds of seamless connectivity options for travelers to key markets such as Australia, China, Thailand, and more via our Fly-Thru services.”
