Geely launches in Pakistan with EX2, EX5 and Starray models, plans local assembly

Chinese automaker Geely Auto entered Pakistan on October 24 through Bestway Group, unveiling three new-energy vehicles and announcing plans to assemble vehicles locally at its Port Qasim facility in Karachi.

The launch introduces the Geely EX2 electric hatchback, EX5 electric SUV and Starray EM-i to the Pakistani market, expanding the range of electric and hybrid vehicles available to consumers.

Bestway Automotive, the group’s sole authorized Geely distributor in Pakistan, will oversee vehicle sales and after-sales services. The company plans to begin with imported vehicles while preparing its existing automotive facility for completely knocked-down (CKD) assembly.

The launch marks Bestway Group’s entry into the automotive sector and extends its investments in Pakistan into vehicle distribution, manufacturing and electric mobility.

Geely to begin with Imported Vehicles

Bestway plans to use its 24.71-acre facility at Port Qasim, Karachi, for local assembly. The plant has more than 403,000 square feet of covered space and an existing capacity to assemble up to 25,000 vehicles annually.

The company aims to have locally assembled Geely vehicles on Pakistani roads by 2027, according to the launch announcement.

The move could establish a local manufacturing base for Geely while allowing the company to introduce its vehicles through imports initially.

However, the company has yet to announce vehicle prices, booking dates or final specifications for the Pakistani market. These details are expected to be communicated through its official channels.

Three Geely Models Unveiled

The launch features three vehicles aimed at different segments of the market.

  • Geely EX2: A compact electric hatchback designed for urban mobility.
  • Geely EX5: An all-electric sport utility vehicle (SUV).
  • Geely Starray EM-i: An SUV described in the supplied launch information as using plug-in hybrid technology.

The models expand the options available to Pakistani consumers as automakers introduce vehicles that use electric power alongside, or instead of, conventional internal combustion engines.

The final specifications, variants, prices and equipment offered in Pakistan have not been announced.

Dealerships, Warranty and Charging Network

Beyond vehicle sales, Bestway plans to establish a nationwide dealership network and introduce online booking and financing options through United Bank Limited (UBL).

The company has also outlined proposed warranty coverage of up to six years or 150,000 kilometers for the vehicle, alongside eight years of coverage for the battery and motor.

These terms remain subject to confirmation through the company’s official sales and warranty documentation.

Charging infrastructure is another part of Bestway’s plans. The group intends to develop a nationwide electric vehicle charging network through Bestway Renewable Technologies.

The initiative could help address one of the challenges facing electric vehicle adoption in Pakistan: access to reliable charging facilities, particularly for drivers traveling between major cities.

Bestway Cement, another group company, currently operates 115 megawatts of captive solar capacity, providing an existing renewable energy footprint within the wider group.

Pakistan Targets 3,000 Public EV Charging Facilities by 2030

Geely’s entry comes as Pakistan works to expand electric mobility under its New Energy Vehicle (NEV) Policy 2025–30.

In a written reply to the National Assembly, the Ministry of Industries and Production said the government plans to establish approximately 3,000 public electric vehicle charging facilities nationwide by 2030.

The initial phase envisages 40 fast-charging stations along motorways and selected sections of the National Highway, N-5. The government also plans to encourage the installation of charging facilities at intervals of approximately 50 kilometers along major highways.

The planned network is intended to support wider electric vehicle adoption and improve connectivity between major urban centers.

The policy’s implementation will be an important factor in determining how quickly consumers can transition to electric vehicles, particularly as more automakers introduce new models.

Bestway Expands Its Investment Portfolio

Bestway Group said it has invested more than $350 million in Pakistan and created 20,000 jobs over the past three years.

Founded in London in 1976 as a retail business, the group has expanded into wholesale, cement, banking, renewable energy and other sectors. It employs more than 63,000 people and reported annual revenue of $7.9 billion in the supplied company information.

Its Pakistani interests include Bestway Cement and a stake in United Bank Limited.

The Geely partnership adds automotive distribution and planned vehicle assembly to the group’s existing portfolio, with the potential to establish another manufacturing operation in the country.

Geely’s Global Sales and Electric Vehicle Strategy

Founded in 1986, Geely Holding Group has a broad international automotive portfolio that includes Volvo Cars, Polestar, Lotus, Zeekr and Lynk & Co.

According to the group’s 2025 sustainability report, its portfolio brands sold approximately 4.12 million vehicles worldwide in 2025. New-energy vehicles accounted for 2.29 million units, or 56% of total sales, representing a 58% year-over-year increase in new-energy vehicle sales.

The group has set a target of 6.5 million global vehicle sales by 2030, according to the supplied launch information.

Geely Auto International Corporation Vice President Evin Ye said Pakistan was the company’s first market in South Asia. He also described Geely as the only automaker with a low-orbit satellite network.

The company’s entry into Pakistan brings its international vehicle portfolio to a market where automakers are increasingly introducing electric and hybrid models.

Pakistan’s Auto Market Shows Growth

Geely’s launch also comes amid a recovery in Pakistan’s automotive market.

Car sales in Pakistan rose 43% year over year during the first quarter of fiscal year 2026–27, according to reporting by Business Recorder. Analysts attributed the increase to an improving macroeconomic environment and stronger vehicle demand.

The expansion of electric and hybrid vehicle offerings could add another dimension to competition in the market, although pricing, financing terms, charging availability and after-sales support will remain important considerations for prospective buyers.

For Bestway and Geely, the next steps will include establishing the sales and service network, announcing market-specific vehicle specifications and prices, and progressing toward local assembly.

The company’s ability to execute these plans will help determine its position in Pakistan’s increasingly diverse automotive market.
