Argentine Tango delight Islamabad music lovers

Football is apparently all that comes to the mind of a Pakistani when the name of Argentina is mentioned. However, the recent melodious concert held in Islamabad not only has altered the perceptions of Pakistanis but also proved to be a great occasion to experience the national music of Argentina: Tango.

The rhythmic Tango music, played by a guitar trio, offered an exquisite experience for the audience to enjoy the Argentine music in Pakistan at the PNCA auditorium. Rodolfo Gorosito, on guitar and vocals, Jose Armando Cataldi and de la Vega, with acoustic guitars, in the right hands, conveyed the integral feeling of tango to the listeners as the audience nodded their heads with rhythm.

A good number of participants, including diplomats of various countries, dignitaries and artists were present at the concert which was jointly organised by Embassy of the Argentine Republic and Pakistan National Council of the Arts (PNCA). Federal Secretary for Ministry of National Heritage and Integration, Farid ullah Khan was the chief guest. Appreciating the performance of the artistes, he said that “Argentine music, particularly Tango, can help promote bilateral relations between the two countries.” Earlier, addressing the guests, Argentine Ambassador Rodolfo Martin Saravia said that “Tango of Guitar show is an endeavour to introduce traditional Argentinian music in Pakistan” as well as to build cultural bridges between Argentina and Pakistan.

“Though it is our first voyage to Pakistan, but the overwhelming response from the people here has convinced us to hold more concerts in other cities of Pakistan” said Jose Cataldi expressing gratitude for Pakistanis.

“Traditional Tangos are accompanied with dance and songs, however we are specialized in guitar, which is one of the first instruments of the Tango,” told Cataldi. Out of the 15 short mellow performances, two were harmonized with songs.

Started in 2000, the band has performed in Spain, Sweden, Canada, America, Germany, Hungary, Uruguay, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia and Thailand. The band members Gorosito, Cataldi, de la Vega Trío are also music teachers, promoting national music of Argentina. All the three musicians are natives of Buenos Aires, a city known for tango music and also defined as the synonym of tango music.
The music of Argentina is known mostly for the tango, which originated in the suburbs of Buenos Aires and later spread throughout the world attaining a status as one of the popular music forms. The rhythmic music is not only the essence of the Argentinean culture, but has also believed to be the inspiration of great Argentine footballers who learned their emotional style and moves from the sharp turns of tango, and the rhythm of movement.
