The Azerbaijan Embassy in Pakistan celebrated Nowruz festival in Islamabad. The event was an occasion to introduce Azerbaijani culture through its cuisine.
Addressing the participants, Azerbaijan’s Ambassador to Pakistan Ali Alizade said that March 21 has been proclaimed by UN General Assembly as the International Day of Nowruz, which means new beginnings.
The festivity has been celebrated for over 3,000 years in the Balkans, the Black Sea Basin, the Caucasus, Central Asia, the Middle East and other regions.
Nowruz which symbolizes the change of seasons and the beginning of the new working season in the fields is celebrated every year in Azerbaijan for a long time as a traditional holiday, the Ambassador said.
The day of Nowruz in Azerbaijan is associated with the beginning of spring and renewal of nature and it is linked to the four elements that govern life: water, fire (the sun), wind (the air) and earth, he explained.
Participants at the gathering had a chance to learn about Azerbaijan’s culture and Nowruz celebration through videos on Nowruz, and music of Azerbaijan.
At the event, the visitors enjoyed authentic cuisine from Azerbaijan such as baklava, bison, tofu, lobster, pilaf and other dishes.
