BYD launches Shark 6, Pakistan’s first luxury plug-in hybrid pickup

In a bold move that reshapes Pakistan’s auto landscape, BYD has launched the Shark 6 — the country’s first luxury plug-in hybrid pickup truck, blending raw power with premium comfort and cutting-edge technology.

This game-changing debut not only marks a new chapter in Pakistan’s shift toward green mobility, but also positions the nation at the forefront of plug-in hybrid innovation in South Asia.

“We are thrilled to introduce Pakistan’s first plug-in hybrid pickup. Backed by two decades of innovation and a vertically integrated R&D approach, BYD has redefined what plug-in hybrid (PHEV) technology can achieve,” said Lei Jian, Country Head of BYD Pakistan.
“We are grateful to our customers in Pakistan for their trust and for making BYD the No. 1 New Energy Vehicle brand in the country.”

Performance meets Utility

At the heart of the Shark 6 is BYD’s proprietary Dual Mode Off-Road (DMO) technology, fusing advanced electric capabilities with rugged off-road performance. Equipped with a 1.5L turbocharged petrol engine, dual electric motors, and a 60L fuel tank, the Shark 6 delivers 436 horsepower and 650 Nm of torque. It can accelerate from 0–100 km/h in just 5.7 seconds, making it the fastest PHEV pickup in Pakistan.

With a combined driving range of 800 km, including 100 km on electric-only mode (NEDC), the Shark 6 is built for long journeys without sacrificing efficiency. The platform achieves fuel economy of up to 50 km/L and can reduce tailpipe carbon emissions by up to 62%, according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

Rugged design for all terrains

Built for adventure, the BYD Shark 6 features multiple terrain modes — Mud, Snow, and Sand — allowing drivers to maintain control across Pakistan’s varied landscapes. It also includes a Cell-to-Chassis battery structure for enhanced underbody protection and a heavy-duty suspension for a smoother ride.

The vehicle’s Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) capability further sets it apart, enabling it to power external devices such as camping gear or tools, a feature ideal for both recreational and professional use.

“The BYD Shark 6 is not just a new vehicle, it’s a leap forward for the entire NEV segment,” said Danish Khaliq, Vice President Sales & Strategy at BYD-MMC. “It redefines what a pickup should be: powerful, luxurious, and intelligent.”

Luxury and Smart Mobility

Inside, the Shark 6 offers an upscale experience with plush seating, premium materials, and a tech-driven cockpit. Smart features include voice-command controls, advanced assisted driving technologies, and intelligent braking systems aligning with BYD’s vision of connected and safe mobility.

The vehicle’s launch marks a major advancement for plug-in hybrids in the Pakistani market, where limited charging infrastructure has so far limited full EV adoption.

Supporting this rollout, Hub Power Company (HUBCO) has announced strategic initiatives through its subsidiary Hubco Green to expand the country’s EV charging infrastructure. In collaboration with major oil marketing companies, BYD aims to install charging stations every 200 km along the Lahore-Islamabad Motorway by the end of 2026.

“To empower the customers with accessible and practical commutes, PHEVs like the BYD Shark 6 offer added convenience and peace of mind, even for long-distance journeys,” said Kamran Kamal, CEO of HUBCO. “NEV owners can now enjoy their vehicles without range anxiety and travel long distances with confidence.”

Shark 6 test drives and bookings open in Pakistan

The launch event in Karachi brought together key representatives from BYD headquarters, Mega Motor Company, and HUBCO, alongside stakeholders from the auto industry, media, and prospective customers. Attendees experienced the vehicle firsthand through live demonstrations and test drives.

Bookings for the BYD Shark 6 are now open, with a retail price of PKR 19.95 million. Nationwide test drives will roll out across dealerships in the coming weeks.
