A 24-year-old Careem captain shot dead in D-12 area of Islamabad, his car stolen

Citizens of Islamabad are shocked as the news of the killing of a young Careem driver was shared on social media.

The Careem captain (driver) named Junaid Mustafa has been shot dead in the far-off D-12 area of Islamabad on Thursday night, 22nd of February.

Police say Mustafa was found dead in Street 79, Sector G-13/1 area. He was shot with a 30-bore pistol multiple times and his right hand and arm also bore signs of injuries.

The gunmen stole his Suzuki WagonR along with two mobile phones.

According to the deceased’s family members and an email screenshot shared on social media, Mustafa was on a ride from F-11 Markaz to D-12. He was allegedly kidnapped and then shot and stabbed to death on his way to the destination.

Junaid’s cousin posted about the incident on a Facebook page called “Justice for Junaid Mustafa”:

According to him, the 24-year old was stabbed multiple times before he was shot dead. The passengers allegedly tried to kidnap Junaid and run away with his vehicle. Junaid refused to hand over the keys due to which he tragically lost his life.

After the incident, Careem shared condolence message on social media:

Meanwhile, citizens of Islamabad are also enraged and criticized Careem for claiming that “At the time of the incident, Junaid was not accompanied by any passenger.”

Following the tragic incident, dozens of Careem captains have announced a strike today on February 23 against the company, calling for safety in dangerous areas, especially at night. Careem drivers have announced to hold a car rally from F-9 Park to D-Chowk on Friday afternoon.
